Celebrating Luc Brewaeys 2025 - 2026
Welcome aboard! We are set to soar with the music of Luc Brewaeys.
Renowned worldwide, Brewaeys was celebrated for his virtuosic and adventurous compositions, characterized by a rich sense of lyricism, swirling sounds, and tonal colors. He held a deep belief that music should be a visceral experience—best enjoyed live whenever possible.
Though Luc Brewaeys passed away on December 18, 2015, his musical legacy endures. To commemorate the tenth anniversary of his passing, the Luc Brewaeys Foundation has united partners from Belgium's classical music community for a year-long celebration of his remarkable work.
With a penchant for humor Brewaeys created the short orchestral piece Fasten Seat Belts! Nightmare for Orchestra in 1997, offering a delightful challenge for both musicians and audiences. The spirited title has become our motto on this journey through Brewaeys’ oeuvre.
This commemorative year will spotlight Brewaeys’ orchestral works, as he regarded the orchestra as his “favorite instrument.” The 2025–2026 season will include an almost complete cycle of his symphonies, alongside a concert performance of his breathtaking opera L’u dal fiore in bocca, and numerous concerts featuring smaller ensembles.
In partnership with MATRIX (Centre for New Music), a traveling exhibition and publication will provide an in-depth look at Brewaeys’ captivating scores and his vividly expressive musical language.
Please fasten your seat belts - we are ready for take-off!
More information about the program, location and ticket sales will follow at the end of June 2025
